Knockhill Success For CF Motorsport

The long trip over the border and into Scotland for the latest round of the British Supersport Championship was worth it for CF Motorsport as Kyle Ryde powered his Pacedayz.com European Trackdays Yamaha to another double podium, the talented youngster bagging third in Saturday’s sprint race before standing atop the podium in Sunday’s feature race.

The opening race on Saturday afternoon saw Ryde finish 3rd, but Sunday was a different story, the number 77 CF Motorsport entered machine snatching the victory by 0.647s at the flag after an enthralling race saw the leading riders locked together throughout. There were anxious moments in the closing stages as Ryde was held up by a back marker, but not prepared to give in, brimming with confidence Ryde hit back to win his 2nd race of the season.

The 41 points Kyle achieved at the Knockhill circuit near Dunfermline, narrows the gap to the overall championship leader to a single point.

Kyle Ryde – 2nd overall in the British Supersport Championship: "Knowing the strengths of the Triumph machines, driving to Knockhill I was a little nervous of what was going to happen. Ending up 0.5s off Luke and in 6th on the timesheets on Friday made it clear we had some changes to do but there was more to come from myself so went with a gamble on setup for qualifying which worked a little better and I managed to put it on the front row which gave me a boost for race 1 . I struggled a little to pass people and we came away with a lucky 3rd after avoiding Jake’s bike, but that’s racing! We made a change for warm up and it felt loads better . Fastest in warm up with my personal best lap time boosted my confidence for the feature race. I made a rubbish start but made my way forward. The setting was loads better meaning I could actually pass people and save the rear tyre for the end of the race. I am so chuffed with the win because it’s not just me that deserved it its all the team as well! A big thanks to Taz Mac for the helping hand through the weekend means a lot too.!"

The results in Scotland mean Ryde and the CF Motorsport squad have been on the British Supersport Championship podium a remarkable 8 times (out of a possible ten) so far this year, and with the half way round scheduled to take place at Brands Hatch in a fortnight it’s not impossible for this tally to hit double figures before the end of July.

CF Motorsport was in action once again in the Pirelli National Superstock 600cc Championship with regular Pacedayz.com riders Ben Currie and Ross Twyman racing in the traditional yellow colours of the CF squad.

Currie, winner of the last race at Snetterton qualified 3rd on the grid while Ross Twyman lined up 28th after taking a little longer to get to grips with the short and technical Knockhill circuit. Despite being 28th, Tywman was less than a second from 9th, such is the competitiveness of the series.

Taking the lead early on, Currie was, as he has been all season, in contention from the start, mixing it with his championship rivals in the leading group while Ross carved his way through the field, passing ten people on lap one in his quest to make it into the points.

The race itself was as exciting as ever until with the 7 laps remaining and with rain beginning to fall the red flags came out, the result being declared after just 14 laps.

The stoppage meant Currie was awarded 13 points for a 4th place finish while Twyman was classified 16th, less than 2 seconds from 10th. Both were naturally disappointed at not being able to race until the end but can be confident that they are both capable of strong results as the season enters its second half at Brands Hatch in a fortnight.

Ben Currie – 4th position: "A tough day in the office. Morning warm up got off to a great start with me finishing the session in P1 and we carried the momentum into the race by making a great start and snatching 1st place off Mason Law who we knew we had to beat in terms of the championship. I led for a few laps until the rain came down and I started riding conservatively. The others pushed on like there was no rain and came past me so I ended up 4th which is still good as I only dropped 3 points to championship leader Mason. Huge credit to the team for getting my bike competitive enough to win after a few little dramas during the weekend. I’ll be strong at Brands, I know I can win there."

Ross Twyman – 16th position: "After learning the track and struggling with qualifying I had a lot of work to do in the race! I made a good start and made up 10 places in the first lap and was in the group fighting for 6th. I made a few mistakes and decided to hold back, regroup and then progress through the pack but as soon as I started to make my move the red flag came out. Not the best position to finish in to say the least but was a really good race and that’s racing! Thanks to Craig and the whole CF Motorsport team as always! Also big thanks to everyone who helps me. We move on to Brands Hatch we know we can be competitive from the first session."

In the championship standings Ben is 2nd while Ross holds 15th overall.
