CF Motorsport end season on a high with victory at Brands Hatch
Cal Cooper secured his third British Superstock 600 win of the season to ensure CF Motorsport ended their 2013 campaign on a positive note. The Manx youngster was in formidable form, at Brands Hatch, as he cruised to victory; leading every one of the 12 laps.
In the dry qualifying, on Friday, he blew the rest of the field away. He ended the session almost a second faster than anyone else on track. On Saturday, when the rain came, Cooper went fastest once again. Needless to say, it was enough to seal a fourth successive pole position. The track was wet again for the final race of the season. Cooper made a tentative start but soon found his rhythm and took the lead before the end of the first lap. He immediately began to gap the chasing pack. Cooper did have a scare when he very nearly got spat off at Graham Hill Bend but he somehow managed to save it and, from there, he never looked back.
In the end, the CF Motorsport rider took the win by almost 5 seconds.Six consecutive podiums helped Cooper to secure an impressive third position in the overall Superstock 600 Championship standings.
In the British Supersport Championship, Glenn Irwin equalled his best performance of the season with 7th and 5th placed finishes. Both Irwin and Coates fell victim to the wet conditions during Saturday's qualifying session.
CF Motorsport boss, Craig Fitzpatrick: "We have had another great weekend here at Brands Hatch. Cal was fantastic all weekend. He showed that he could do it no matter what the weather did, and he really impressed again in the race.""Glenn has improved again this weekend and secured our best Supersport result of the season. Nikki had a bit of a tough weekend but I was pleased to see he recover and get in the points today.""The CF Motorsport team have worked so hard again. Yesterday was a bit hectic, with the two crashes, but everyone did a great job.
"Cal Cooper: "The weekend was awesome. Setting a lap record in qualifying, which was a second faster than anyone else. I was really nervous about my first wet race on a 600 but it went better than I could have imagined, even with the huge moment on the second lap!""The season started off tough; being in my own team and struggling to set the bike up. Coming here and jumping on the CF Motorsport Yamaha was awesome and Craig has helped me no end.
"Glenn Irwin: "Those inbetween conditions wouldn't be my favourite, especially on a drying track, so to take a 7th and a 5th I was very happy.""The team worked great to repair my bike after I got caught out in qualifying, so a massive thank you to them. Craig and the whole CF Motorsport team, along with my personal sponsors, have certainly helped make 2013 end on a high. All I can say is thank you to them all.
"It has been a very successful campaign for CF Motorsport in 2013, with 13 wins and 20 podiums across the British Supersport Cup and Superstock 600 Championships. There were also 13 top-ten finishes and a fastest lap in the British Supersport Championship, to go with two lap records in the Superstock 600 class. Both Jake Dixon and Cal Cooper finished the season third in their respective championships.
Fitzpatrick:"I am happy with how things have gone in our first full season. We have had some great results and both Cal Cooper and Jake Dixon ended up on their respective championship podiums, even though they both only really did half the season. Who knows what we could have achieved if we had had them both for the full year. I want to thank the whole CF Motorsport team for their efforts this year and all of our sponsors for their support. Hopefully we can build on this season and continue the success in 2014."
